It's Interesting How Unproductivity is Easily Contagious
Hi Fam,
I have been so unproductive today that I started thinking and analyzing the concept of unproductivity.
While I was busy being unproductive, I realized that I was actually in a very productive mood in the morning — then why did I stop working?
I’m in the field of software development, and in the development process,
we have a daily “Stand-up meeting”.
These meetings are for discussing daily tasks and planning the day.
Today, I was very zestful in the stand-up meeting —
we were discussing our tasks and distributing them among the team.
But then I sensed some unproductive vibe, and it was from my Team Lead.
Yes, MY TEAM LEAD was giving out unproductive vibes.
He was like,
“Let’s try to do this, and even if it’s not done, there’s no issue — I’ll just be doing some R&D work.”
That’s where it all started. LOL
There are studies that suggest unproductivity is contagious — and it really is.
I experienced it today.
You all must have also experienced it once in a while.
Just because of one coworker, the whole team ends up being unproductive.
This sucks.
We need to find a way to stay motivated and be productive.
I think the leader or manager of the team plays a huge role in such scenarios.
They can:
- Keep the team motivated
- Engage the team in fun activities along with work
- Or come up with a reward system
Reward systems can work wonders.
On a personal level too, we can use reward systems to stay productive.
For example:
“If I finish this task on time, then I get to go out and have ice cream.” 🍦
I’ll start using this trick from tomorrow onwards!
Aw, I miss ice-creams. It’s been a while since I’ve had one 🙁
